New My Accounts Registration and Login As part of our ongoing commitment to continually improve the online security of your personal information, Western & Southern Life has implemented a new registration process for our policy/contract owners and shareholders who access their accounts through WSLife.com. The new process features a personalized WSLife.com Site Verification Text – a graphic element that appears during your login to visually verify that the login page presented to you is truly from WSLife.com and not a "spoof" site or a "phisher". In addition, the login process has been separated into two separate screens for entering your user name and password. As a result of these new enhanced security measures, all owners wishing to access their accounts are required to reregister, a process that may take a few minutes to complete. To expedite the process, please have your policy/contract number, Social Security Number, and insured's date of birth at hand. Study: Recession dealt blow to saving practices (2010-02-23) Feb. 23--At the start of the nation's fourth annual America Saves Week, organizers Monday released an annual survey suggesting the latest downturn, dubbed the "Great Recession," has eroded the savings practices of millions of Americans. Tax News Required Minimum Distributions to Be Suspended for 2009 The Worker, Retiree, and Employer Recovery Act of 2008 will suspend required distributions for IRAs and defined contribution plans for the calendar year of 2009. This suspension applies to lifetime distributions to employees and IRA owners and to post-death distributions to beneficiaries. This provision also applies to individuals who attain age 70½ in 2009 and who elect to take their first distribution by April 1, 2010. It does not apply to individuals who reach age 70½ in 2008 and wish to defer their first distribution to April 1, 2009. Retirement Contribution Changes as of January 1, 2009 The 2009 contribution limits for Traditional and Roth IRAs remain the same at $5,000 and $6,000 for the under age 50 and age 50 and above cohorts, respectively. Employer-sponsored limits, however, are increased. For 401(k), 403(b), and 457 plans, the new limits are $16,500 and $22,000 for the under age 50 and age 50 and above groups, respectively. For SIMPLE plans, it is $11,500 (under age 50) and $14,000 (age 50 and above). The maximum SEP contribution is still 25%, but the dollar limit is increased to $49,000.
