August 30, 2005 The Western and Southern Life Insurance Company Achieves Listing in 2005 Ward's 50 Benchmark Group
The Western and Southern Life Insurance Company was listed among the top 50
companies that "have excelled at balancing safety, consistency and performance
over the past five years (2000-2004)," according to the Ward Group, a
Cincinnati-based management consulting firm specializing in the insurance
industry.
Each year, the Ward Group analyzes the financial performance
of insurance companies in the industry and identifies the top performers in each
segment. The top 50 companies are referred to as the Ward's 50 Benchmark Group.
The Western and Southern Life Insurance Company is one of only two
Cincinnati-based companies to be listed in the Ward’s 50 Benchmark Group. For
this recognition, Ward Group analyzed approximately 1,000 life-health companies.

Western-Southern Life’s Web Site Achieves No. 5 Ranking
In the second quarter of 2005, WSLife.com was ranked No. 5 by DALBAR, up from No. 15 at the end
of the first quarter among the top 25 Web-based technology firms within the insurance, annuity and mutual funds industry.
As one of the leading financial services research firms, DALBAR measures the performance of customer service programs and Web sites in the financial services industry on a quarterly basis. Major improvements to WSLife.com during the second quarter of 2005 included:
Consumers received confirmation e-mails when service requests and profile changes were completed on their accounts;
An e-mail service was available for informing consumers when their most recent statements were posted to the site;
Once logged into their accounts, users had access to a feature that pre-filled account services forms with the consumer’s information;
Agent-of-record contact information was made available from all secure areas of the site;
As the No. 5-ranked Web site, WSLife.com will continue to be published in National Underwriter as well as DALBAR’s Quarterly Web Rankings Report with other "Top 5" life insurance and annuity consumer Web sites, which include Fidelity (1), Lincoln Life (2), New York Life (3) and Guardian Investor (4).

Spots to No. 13 in DALBAR Ranking
DALBAR has ranked WSLife.com No. 13 among Web-based technology
firms within the insurance, annuity and mutual funds industry. This ranking at
the end of the fourth quarter of 2004 was up from No. 22.
As one of the leading financial services research firms, DALBAR measures the performance
of customer service programs and Web sites in the financial services industry on
a quarterly basis.
Major improvements to WSLife.com during
the fourth quarter of 2004 led to this rating. Among improvements mentioned by
DALBAR are the launch of a new expanded site tour using iframes technology for
easier site maintenance; illustrated guides, which provide investors with a
better understanding of the different statements that are sent out with an
insurance policy or annuity contract; a revised and updated Tax Information
Guide for the 2004 tax year; and secure e-mail forms to protect the privacy of
user account inquiries.
