WSLife.com Achieves No. 4 Ranking and "Excellent" Designation by DALBAR
For the fourth quarter of 2007, DALBAR ranked WSLife.com No. 4 among the top 25
Web-based technology firms within the insurance, annuity, and mutual funds
industry. For the first time ever, WSLife.com also achieved DALBAR’s highest
designation of "Excellent" with a total score of 81.28.
DALBAR develops standards for, and provides research,
ratings, and rankings of intangible factors to the mutual fund, broker/dealer,
discount brokerage, life insurance, and banking industries.

The Western and Southern Life Insurance Company was named one of Ward Group's 50 Top-Performing Insurance Companies in the
life-health category for 2007. This is our 15th time receiving this recognition in the 17 years Ward has conducted their
analysis.
Ward Group is an operational consulting firm and leading provider of insurance industry benchmarking and best
practices services. For performance rankings, Ward's 50 Top life-health insurance companies produced a 16.1 percent
return on average equity from 2002 to 2006, compared to 12.6 percent for the industry overall. Specifically, our
financial results were outstanding in the areas of safety, consistency, and performance.
Nick Sargen Featured in an Ad in The Wall Street
Journal
Nick Sargen, Chief Investment Officer for Fort Washington Investment Advisors
and Western & Southern Financial Group (Western & Southern), was
featured in an ad in
the July 18, 2007, issue of The Wall Street Journal. The ad reflects
Western & Southern’s continued support for economic development efforts in Ohio. It is a
campaign by the Ohio Business Development Coalition honoring Ohio’s
uncompromising balance of professional and personal opportunity and those who
embrace it.
According to the Ohio Business Development Coalition, "In Ohio, many top

Jim Essex and F. Penny Wright Honored as YMCA Black Achievers
Jim Essex and F. Penny Wright were recently honored through the YMCA of Greater
Cincinnati’s Black Achievers Program. Participating in this program, a national
career development/academic achievement initiative for African-American youth,
is a long tradition at Western & Southern Financial Group, which
helped found the first Black Achiever Program in Cincinnati in 1979.
While Essex, assistant vice president and director of purchasing, public
relations, and Wright, Web site specialist, eBusiness, were honored as
distinguished professionals at the YMCA Black Achievers Banquet on June 22, 2007, the
program actually focuses on teenagers. After the banquet, the spotlight shifts
to a group of teenage YMCA Black Achievers, African American and other teens of
color on the point of making important career and educational goals. Over the
coming year, Essex and Wright, along with other adult honorees, will serve as
role models and workshop leaders for the young people in the program.
Western & Southern Makes the Fortune 500 List Again
For the fourth consecutive year, Western & Southern Financial Group® (Western & Southern) is among the top 500
companies in the United States in 2007. The latest Fortune 500 listing by Fortune magazine places Western &
Southern at No. 460, with $4.838 billion in revenue for 2006. Western &
Southern moved up from No. 473 last year, with $4.314 billion in revenue.
Capital Analysts, Inc., Continues to Rank Among Top 50 Broker-Dealers
by Investment News
The Independent Broker/Dealer Survey in Investment News listed Capital Analysts,
Inc. (CAI), in the Top 50 broker-dealers in three categories. CAI was No. 43 among
advisors producing over $100,000, which is up from No. 50 last year. They remained
approximately the same at No. 20 for fee revenue and No. 34 for gross revenue, based
on year-end 2006 figures.

Awards
In recognition of its
proprietary "FASTAudit" Underwriting Audit Database, Western & Southern
Financial Group® (Western & Southern) was named one of the "Top 5 Finalists" for
A.M. Best Co.’s 2006 E-Fusion Awards. The awards recognize innovative uses of
insurance technology to leverage business value.
FASTAudit is an
automated underwriting audit tool that enables the rapid review and adjustment
of specific underwriting requirements and underwriting workflows. It can audit
over 10,000 cases in less than 10 minutes. Its objective is to identify and capitalize upon competitive
advantages in our chosen markets.
The information
provided by this tool facilitates customized, individual underwriting training,
which can yield more consistent competitive underwriting. FASTAudit
determines if we have underwritten within authority limits and have obtained
specific underwriting requirements.
The use of the
tool also has been a positive part of our negotiations with our reinsurers.
The reports generated using FASTAudit confirm the high quality underwriting and

Western & Southern Agency Group’s Web site, WSLife.com, outshone key competitors like New York Life, John Hancock Financial Services, Prudential, and MetLife by being ranked number four (4) by The Customer Respect Group (CRG). CRG’s "Customer Respect Index" ranked corporate Web sites based upon how well companies treated visitors to their Web sites.
In CRG’s 2006 second quarter survey, WSLife.com was ranked No. 4 out of 20 companies in the Life and Health Insurance industry sector. Specifically, WSLife.com achieved a No. 1 ranking in the area of Responsiveness within the same sector. Of significant note, WSLife.com was rated No. 1 for Simplicity among the entire group of 52 insurance companies that were evaluated, which includes Life and Health, Property and Casualty, and Health Care. On June 21, 2006, all of Western & Southern Financial Group's® life
insurance member companies received the highest financial strength rating A++
(Superior) from the A.M. Best Co.
The Western and Southern Life Insurance Company, Western-Southern Life Assurance Company,
Columbus Life Insurance Company, Integrity Life Insurance Company, and National
Integrity Life Insurance Company each had its A++ rating affirmed. In
addition, The Lafayette Life Insurance Company, our newest life insurance
